Biography of Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas 

The present of each nation has grown from the life long struggle of its heroes in the past. Nations do not forget the struggle of their leaders of the past.Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas was also a great leader who rose against the cruelty of the Dogra Raj. He was offered to serve as Sub-Judge, but he refused to serve the Dogra Raj. He spent all his life in struggle for freedom of the Kashmiri Nation.

Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas belonged to a middle class family. He was born on February 04, 1904 in Jammu. His father's name was Chaudhry Nawab Khan. He did his Bachelors from the Prince of Whales College Jammu.Then he studied Law at Law College Lahore. After that, he started his career as a lawyer in Jammu He joined the Young Men's Association to raise voice more effectively for the freedom of the Kahmiri nation. This organization was built in 1909. He led many huge marches against the Dogra Raj. His activities had made him famous among the Kashmiri people.

When All Janmu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC) was founded, Sheikh Abdullah was clected its president Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas was elected its secretary general. Both joined hand in hand to save the Kashmiris from the Dogra Raj and the Indians plotting against them. Later, AJKMC was renamed as the National Conference NC). Both of the leaders could not stay together for long time,because Sheikh Abullah had built relationship with Nehru. But  Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas remained loyal to the Kashmiris.So he left Sheikh Abdullah and started leading the Muslim Conference.

Muslim Conference started winning more and more fame among the Kashmiris. It was revived under the leadership of Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas. In 1947. its slogan was to connect Kashmir with Pakistan. It was this slogan which became famous among the Kashmiris.

Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas bravely struggled to make Kashmir a part of Pakistan. He reached Pakistan after the transfer of prisoners in 1948 after the ceasefire. Here he served the Azad Kashmir government till 1951. He presented the Kashmir issue in the United Nations along with Sardar Muhammad lbrabim Khan.

Died


In 1951, he resigned from the headship of Azad Kashmir government and left politics. He died on December 18, 1967 and was buried at Faizabad, Rawalpindi as he willed to be buried in Pakistan.On this day of each December, the whole Kashmiri nation celebratesh is anniversary.
